Random Generators

As a small child with an unfettered love of creative writing, unrestricted internet access, and untreated ADHD, I spent a lot of time playing with random prompt generators. Seventh Sanctum and Serendipity were akin to holy sites to me. Part of how I learned to code was through brute forcing my way through other people's generator codes to try and make my own. I made some lousy ones, and eventually made some pretty good ones. Those ones are here!

These used to be under a different subdomain, but I think they fit better with the identity of Fairytale, and I'm enjoying bringing things together in one place. I also used to host them with a site that used a sort of psuedo-code language based on JavaScript, but then they fell really hard into generative AI, so, as a personal JavaScript learning project, I took on the project of remaking them from scratch.

All these generators are fully human made, both code and content.

You can use anything you create based on these prompts in your art, writing, stories, TTRPGs, zines, or whatever! I'd be really happy if you showed them to me, too. You can email courtney at magicalgurll.com or post in my guestbook!

Remakes From Old Domain

Current WIPs

  • Fantasy Dungeon: existing wip that generally just needs more options.
  • Character Design: various bits and baubles to include, a concept, general style; can be imported as-is but I'd like to add more options.
  • Pokémon Region: I had a big WIP project of this in the old system I used that I think will actually be easier to finagle in vanilla Javascript (+ JQuery), but it's gonna take me some time.
  • Decemberists Job: A silly generator based on the vibes of The Decemberists' discography.
  • Tiefling: I just think they're neat.
  • DISASTER/PEACE Character: Based on this TTRPG.

Other Ideas

  • Fantasy/D&D NPC: race, job, personality, connection to the party.
  • Witch Design: provides a familiar, hat, and house to give a really simple design-based prompt for a witch. Maybe I'll just add this to the existing witch generator?
  • Kipo and the Wonderbeasts Generator: This was requested of me! First I have to watch this show.
  • Pokémon NPC: To make Just Some Guy in the Pokémon world.
